Portugal coach Fernando Santos has stressed that the leading of Portugal to glory in the Euro 2016 does not sorely rest on the shoulders of Christiano Ronaldo as majority of opinions may have it, though he acknowledges that the Real Madrid attacker will be key to their chances in France.
Although Santos has led his team to being one of the foreign winners of the showpiece in France, he still believes that so much will depend on the form of their star man.
Santos highlighted Ronaldo as being as important for Real Madrid as much as he is important for Portugal. Adding to that, he asserted that a player like Ronaldo who scores 50 or 60 goals per season, with tendencies of scoring goals from out of nowhere, always be relevant to the football industry.
“It's impossible to quantify how important he is.”Said Santos. However, the leading of Portugal to glory in the fourth coming Euro 2016 will require more than the expertise on Christiano Ronaldo, according to Santos. He will always need the help of his team-mates, even though there is no denying he is hugely important to the course.
